You wouldn't have been surprised if it turned out Lien couldn't smile. The only thing that made you think otherwise was a little glimmer of hope inside you that seemed to be extinguished by the second. You knew that Lien would have a nice smile. She didn't show ever, but you'd caught a glimpse of one once, a wide smile that seemed to make the entire world brighter, even if it was just for an instant. Which in this case, it was, because as soon as she noticed you were looking, her face dropped. You knew from then on that you weren't supposed to have seen it; Lien's smile was to remain hidden to the entire world.

But since when have you actually paid attention to what you were supposed to do? You were a thorn in the side of your allies; rebellious and defiant; often missing meetings and training altogether. Not because you hated them, or anything, but because you honestly could not be bothered to go. It just wasn't your thing; you'd much rather spend your days doing what you wanted, not what anybody else wanted. Which, in your case, meant playing video games. Because you were really that cool.

That was how you first became friends with Lien, actually. Walking up to her as she sat on the school stairs, tapping at her DS and then asking her what she was playing. Sure, she'd been a little cold, to begin with. But she'd warmed up after a while, the two of you eventually becoming friends. Because if she couldn't put up with your snarky remarks and you with her frosty exterior, who could? You'd never really had that many good friends actually; your personality seemed to drive people away. So, really, you were just glad to have her as a friend.

A 'friend', you say.  Yeah right.

So, you liked her, alright? The way her face would scrunch up with concentration when the two of you battled each other at the arcade, the way her hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail, as if she didn't care what people thought of her, the way those brown eyes lit up when she saw you walking towards you. But you were almost certain you would never say anything. From what you could tell, she was straight, and you didn't want to ruin your friendship. So you just carried on, trying to distract yourself with whatever the darkest depths of the interwebs could provide. Until that day, that is. Until that day.

It had seemed pretty normal to start with. You woke up on a Saturday morning to the sunlight pouring through your curtains. Yawning, you turned on your side and reached for your phone, wondering who would send you a message this early in the morning. It took a while before the offending object allowed you to view the text, but you got there eventually.

'[Name], meet you at the arcade, challenge you on DDR
Lien'

Bless, she still hadn't got the idea of text speak. You chuckled and hastily texted back, agreeing to meet her there, before grabbing a pair of jeans and your favourite t-shirt and heading into the shower room. The water was freezing, but it sure as hell woke you up. You shuddered as you stepped out, grabbing a towel, wanting to leave the house as soon as possible.

You took about half an hour to get there and Lien was waiting for you outside. She looked up at you, a smile almost forming, and you blushed bright red. So red, in fact, that you wouldn't have been surprised if you got phasered at that very moment. She'd done something to her hair, you couldn't tell what, that made it seem so tidy compared to normal, something that made you want to pull her ponytail out and run your fingers through her hair to mess it up. And then you wanted to… Woah, wait a second there [Name], no thinking sexy thoughts about your best friend, m'kay. Not when you're about to spend the entire day with her, at least. At least wait until you get home, she's gone and you have access to the interwebs.

"Hey [Name]." You glanced back to her face, feeling conscious of the dusting of pink on your cheeks, then nodded.

"You ready for me to kick your ass?" you asked, beaming. She just rolled her eyes, muttering about how you were nowhere near as you thought you were.

Turns out, she was right. She beat you. Like hell. You emerged from the DDR match panting, gasping for air. You knew you were out of shape compared to a few months ago, but this was ridiculous. And Lien was laughing. Well, chuckling, but the emotions were the same. You glared at her, partly wishing she could keep her victories a little quieter, partly knowing that you'd do exactly the same thing if you'd won. And, seeing as she won, she got the chance to make you do whatever she wanted you to. Within reason, of course. You sighed, trying to get the whole thing over and done with. Because if there was one thing you hated more than losing, it was being humiliated after losing. In public, no less. You'd flushed again, your entire face red.

"Ok, you won. You get the whole 'do-whatever-you-want' thing with me. So, if you wouldn't mind getting on with it; that would be great."

Now it was her turn to blush. She turned her head to the side slightly, as if she was guessing distance. You had absolutely no idea what she was doing, so you asked. She didn't take that well either.

"None of your business! Besides, you'll see in a second anyway."

You sighed and shut up. Or at least that was until she kissed you.

Her lips were softer than you could imagine and you leaned into her instinctively. She seemed almost hungry, trying to take in as much of you as she could. You surprised even yourself by opening your mouth almost immediately, moaning into her. A tongue slipped across your lips, teasing you slightly, before engaging in a battle for dominance with your own. You won, but Lien didn't seem to mind. It was the only thing she was going to let you win, at any rate. You pulled apart, leaving the two of you breathless. You muttered something softly, looking down at your feet, unaware that it had even slipped from your mouth.

"You, me, here…this couldn't be better if I programmed the holodeck myself."

She raised an eyebrow, getting the reference, but unsure of why you were saying it now. "So, [Name], does t-this make us…"

You looked up. "Girlfriends?" She nodded.

"W-well, y-yep", you stammered, "I-if you want us to be, that is."

She smiled, finally and you felt your heart skip a beat. It was as beautiful as you'd imagined, no- more beautiful. Because you knew you made her happy and that was what mattered. You smirked, placing your arms across her shoulders and pulling her towards you. You knew it was a bad time and, quite frankly, a bad line altogether. But you couldn't resist saying it.

"So," you sniggered, "Why don't we head back to my place and I'll show you what a real Jedi can do with her light sabre?"

She looked like she wanted to hit you.
DDR= Dance Dance Revolution

The idea for this was born of three things. Firstly, the fact in the Christmas 2011 event, Vietnam shows that she doesn't know how to smile. Secondly, that she is said to be a gamer. And thirdly, I love nerdy pickup lines. No really, I do. And I have more.

'Someone must have shot you with a phaser set on ‘stunning’.'

'You must be Windows 95 because you gots me so unstable.'

'I’ve been told I have the cool sexual prowess of a Romulan.'

*Cough*, anyway, I wrote this for my personal prompt challenge which you can find here
